From peachy pink to warm oranges and yellow, find out what the experts have to say about this year's trending tones. Fandeck is Resene The Range 24 fashion colours.

While you may feel like keeping things neutral is the ‘safe’ option when it comes to your home, clever use of colour can not only drastically transform and improve the look of your spaces, but it also can have a positive impact on your mood and mental wellbeing. The power of using different hues can create an uplifting, revitalising, energising, calming, relaxing or comfortable ambiance, depending on the space. It can be a daunting prospect, but selecting on-trend and complementary colours can make the process a little easier. We asked Resene Colour Experts Amy Watkins and Brenda Ngatai about key colour trends for and how you incorporate them into and onto your home.

What are this year’s key colour trends?

The Pantone Colour of the Year for 2024 is Peach Fuzz and it’s gorgeous! Pantone Color Institute Executive Director Leatrice Eiseman said it perfectly, if I may quote her: “In seeking a hue that echoes our innate yearning for closeness and connection, we chose a colour radiant with warmth and modern elegance. A shade that resonates with compassion, offers a tactile embrace, and effortlessly bridges the youthful with the timeless.” I love Leatrice’s statement, it’s perfect! As a Resene Colour Expert working with colour every day, to read this is magic music to my senses.

How has this evolved from previous trends?

Across the design industry last year we saw a lot of pinks, oranges and reds, with burnt terracotta and brown undertones. The 2024 Pantone Colour of the Year makes complete sense – it has morphed into this beautiful soft and gentle colour of Peach Fuzz.

What Resene paint colours exhibit this trend?

A Resene colour that has the Peach Fuzz look is Resene Tuft Bush, with complementary colours Resene Coral Tree, Resene Half Doeskin, Resene Bianca and Resene Blanched Pink. These colours can be made into Resene interior and exterior paint so you can use them inside your home or out.

Are there any Resene wallpapers that fit the trend?

Look at wallpaper books in any of our Resene ColorShops.  It’s always best to see them in person to see the details of the texture, colour and pattern, which can be hard to fully appreciate when you see a photo online. Try designs like Resene Willow Wallpaper Collection 2008-143-04 or Resene Willow Wallpaper Collection 2008-150-03 – these patterns are a great representation of the look and feel of Peach Fuzz.

How can we incorporate trends into our homes with confidence?

What are the key colour trends for 2024?

People are loving using colour at the moment which is great! I’m seeing a rise in the warmer colour palette – lots of oranges and yellows like Resene Kombucha and Resene Tulip Tree.

How have these evolved from previous trends?

It’s an extension from the earth colour palette of soft greens that have been on-trend for the past year. People are ready to experiment more with colour, whether it’s a bold feature wall or being brave and having colour on all four walls of a room.

What Resene paints are best for these trends?

Going for a flatter finish when using the bolder colours creates a more chalky/restful look. For this effect I would recommend using Resene SpaceCote Flat or if you want something a little more wipeable with children or pets in your home, use Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen. Both finishes are wipeable but the sheen of Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen makes it easier to clean than a flat finish.

Are there any Resene wallpapers that fit this trend?

There are so many options out there at the moment, but for the real statements I would recommend looking at the Resene Golden Age Wallpaper Collection or Resene Versace 5 Wallpaper Collection.

How can we incorporate trends into our homes with confidence?

Look at starting off in a powder room. This room is usually small enough that you can easily decorate it in a day or two and it will give you the confidence to move onto a bigger space like the living room, bedroom or an outdoor project like your deck.

What are your key tips for people looking to go a little bolder and more trend-focused with colour?

Create a mood board. Place the colours, wallpaper and images of furniture into a flat lay. This will help you to see how the colours all work together to give you confidence as you make your final choices.

Subtle peach tones can take on a more pronounced peach appearance under certain lighting conditions and when paired with pink, red or orange accents. Paint colours to pair with peach

One of the great things about peach is that it’s an incredibly adaptable colour because it goes well with so many different hues, and there’s a colour pairing that can suit just about any project. While it’s likely not going to get much traction for use on exteriors beyond doors, garden features such as planters or small accents, the following combinations can be used across various design elements like walls, furniture, accessories and architectural features to create stunning interior spaces.
